Salone Del Mobile 2018 Highlights: Part 2
This April the Olson and Baker team descended upon Salone del Mobile and it’s some, 300,000 visitors. Now in its 57th year, the trade show showed a lot of promise, given its previous years of fairly harsh criticism, we thought this year it fairly represented what is widely regarded as the furniture design industry’s most important design week. In a three-part series, we’re highlighting our favourite stands and pieces from the event…

“Our designs are characterized by Scandinavian heritage in terms of the ambitiously high quality level and the common idea of surrounding oneself with less, but important things.
In order to secure a product’s life and width of use, we aim to go in a new direction, finding materials and methods that support these thoughts. Detailing, custom-made solutions and manufacturing methods are of primary interest in the process to create and to develop innovative, contemporary furniture…” – Ida Linea H./ Creative Director
On the stand, the focus was clear, for us the star of the show was the La Pipe Chair.

A passion and genuine interest for design furniture has always been a large aspect of Henrik Langes life. The collection of design objects started at a very early age, and the passion is consistently what drives and reflects Lange Production.

“Woodnotes is a Finnish design company founded in 1987 by textile designer Ritva Puotila and her son Mikko Puotila. The company is still owned by its founders.
The original concept behind Woodnotes products was to combine artistic creativity inspired by Finland’s rugged nature with advanced technologies to shape of Finnish raw materials: wood and paper. Woodnotes is the first company in the world to use paper yarn in a contemporary way in functional textiles. Ritva Puotila wanted to use paper yarn because of its properties – to make the most of its unique characteristics, not as a substitute for other materials.”
We are huge fans of the Line Rug the star of the show!

“The roots of Iittala date back to 1881 when a glass factory was established in a village of the same name in southern Finland. In its early years Iittala produced blown, pressed, polished, painted and etched glass according to continental models.
In the beginning of the 20th century dinnerware was decorated with a variety of ornaments. Iittala was one of the first companies to make the transition from decorative dinner sets to functional, aesthetically pleasing objects infused with progressive Scandinavian design.”
For us the Aalto Vase really stole the show.
