Meet the Designer Tim Derhaag with Olson and Baker

Tim Derhaag is a dutch designer, born in Geleen, Netherlands in 1974. He graduated in 1997 from University of Arts Arnhem with a degree in product design. He then attended the Royal College of Art in London and graduated with a Master’s degree in Furniture & Industrial Design in 1999. Shortly after graduating, Derhaag started his first project through Jasper Morrison – to design a cocktail bar in London.
A year later in 2000, Derhaag established his own design studio in London, working on concepts, interior designs and various products for a variety of clients.
In 2002 Derhaag meets Flos and begins his collaboration and in 2004 his 45 outdoor lighting collections is presented in Milan. The 45 collection’s sleek streamlined design offers functional outdoor lighting, which sits gracefully and subtlety as it projects a minimal ambient light.
The collection received Derhaag his notoriety and remains a popular range in Flos’s collection today.
In 2008 Derhaag was nominated for the Compasso D’Oro and a year later in 2009, his Design for Townhouse Hotel Maastricht wins him ‘Best New Hotel Concept and ‘Dutch Hotel Award’ in 2011.
Since establishing his own design studio in London in 2000. the award-winning designer has participated in many exhibitions, including De Gele Rijder (Arnhem) De Kunsthal (Rotterdam) VSB Bank Award (Utrecht) Foundation of Arts Architecture and Design (Amsterdam) Post Design Gallery, (Milan) Deutsche Bank Award (London) Clerkenwell Green Association Award (London) Sothebys (London) and Design Museum (London).
