Meet the Designer Nazanin Kamali with Olson and Baker

Nazanin Kamali is an Iranian fine craft maker who produces artisanal textiles and homedecor designs deeply rooted in her interest with cultural mythology. Born in 1966, Kamali studied furniture design in the early 90’s at the Royal College of Art where she established Non Specific creativity; a multi-disciplined design collective that worked on a wide range of design projects, from restaurant design to art installations.
Kamali later become the creative director at the retail design company Aero where she managed the entire manufacturing operation, from sourcing and buying, right through to packaging and in-store displays. She amassed an impressive portfolio, including the refurbishment of Aero’s London stores and the exhibition design for the international design exhibitions Cologne, Frankfurt, New York and 100% Design London. Kamali also became heavily involved with the development of new products and design.
In 2000, Kamali set up her own company Newman + Kamali in collaboration with Paul Newman, which subsequently became iNK. Newman + Kamali established themselves within the design industry, supplying some of the largest furniture retailers in the country.
Throughout her career, Kamali’s contemporary spin on traditional craft techniques has illustrated her belief in a sustainable approach to design. Kamali was one of the founding designers at Case Furniture, where her contemporary designs have drawn inspiration from the precision and detail that can be found in Japanese arts, while her bespoke craft commissions are characterized by high levels of craftsmanship and intricate forms.
